The IAC Awards are a national competition put on by the Web Marketing Association. This isn't our first time winning, but it is just as sweet every time. So what exactly did we win? For Rubio's, we won Best Restaurant Website for our complete site redesign. Our goal was to encourage customers to think of Rubio’s as a fun, [...] Continue Reading

Recently, my six-year old daughter was looking over my shoulder as I was writing some ad copy. She then said, “Hey Mom, you can’t start a sentence with and.” “Well, Gina,” I said, rather at a loss for words, wondering how does she know this, “I’m writing Web copy. It’s okay to break the rules.” My apologies to Gina’s first-grade teacher Mrs. Willis, I am one of those responsible for the decline of the English language. But as a copywriter, I’m not writing to please [...] Continue Reading

Yesterday I went back to an older post on this blog to watch a video of the Red Door creative department at the New Children's Museum. I was rather surprised to see a selection of related videos show up in the screen when the video was done playing. One of these videos was titled 3-D Interactive Sex Game as you can see in the screen shot below. Oh my goodness. Apparently, one of the prices you pay for streaming to YouTube for free is the ready availability of other content. W [...] Continue Reading
There comes a time when the right thing to do just makes sense. A little boy named Max needed help, and with the support from coworkers and friends, I knew how to make a difference.
Max Kleckner is my next door neighbor, the son of my parent's closest friends, and my little sister's favorite play date. Unfortunately, Max got diagnosed with cancer on July 4th of this year. It breaks my heart to see Max going through treatment and I wanted to help in someway [...] Continue Reading“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” -Pablo Picasso Every so often, the Red Door creative team makes an outing to a local museum for inspiration. Interactive Designer Michelle’s sister Lindsay works at the New Children’s Museum, just a short stroll along the embarcadero from the RDI offices. Museum is really a misnomer for the place, it’s more like New Children’s Fun-o-rama and the creative team had no problem tapping into the i [...] Continue Reading
Word spread quickly about a new approach to save energy while browsing the web. Blackle, a search engine using Google's technology is designed with an all black homepage, which claims to use less energy than an all white screen. After some online research done by my friends at Patagonia, an environmentally conscious clothing retailer, Blackle appears to be making False claims. In this post by Google, they mention that displaying all black screens on some monitors may even use more energy. "We a [...] Continue Reading
Original Article: Why Zappos Pays New Employees to Quit I came across this interview with the CEO of Zappos.com I felt inclined to share. Yes, the title of the post is what drew me to the subject, but it’s actually not the most interesting part. Later in the interview the CEO shares a prime example of treating customers like they are at “The Ritz” and how it spread into a social media success story. His story is about a woman who ordered shoes for her terminally ill mother and needed to [...] Continue Reading
